Sexual Harassment Or Not??

Sexual harassment is an "unwelcome and unsolicited behavior of a sexual nature" according to Hair and Wiemann. Many people mistake certain looks or acts of kindness for a possible advancement in a sexual way. The differences in how we interpret each others actions and ways of speaking are sometimes mistaken for advances as well, when in reality it could mean the exact opposite. Attraction is another reason that sexual harassment occurs. If someone of certain power is attracted to another person, that the status or authority of the person with certain power abuses it to gain sexual favors. The abuse of power can go on for as long as someone lets it, although people are afraid of saying something because of the person's power and or status. Sexual harassment usually goes over looked due to the fact the the victim does not want to confront their "attacker", instead the victim either changes companies, work areas, or jobs.

  1. We all know or have heard about sexual harassment either from taking online training or reading it in the manual from an employer. The way that you address it from the book makes it clear and easy to understand. The example that you use is a very good in that is the most cases it’s someone that abuses the power. Before reading your post I didn’t realize that attraction could be a form of sexual harassment. But have heard of someone in a higher position abusing the power because they are attracted to another person. But it would not surprise me.

  2. Sexual harassment has always been present in society, since time, there has always an inequality between sexes. In current times, anti sexual harassment policy has been enforced mostly in schools and workplaces. Like what you said Attraction is what causes sexual harassment to occur. It is easy for a person of authority to manipulate through work for sexual favors due to his position of power. It is true that victims do not want to confront the attacker because of the fear or further retaliation or fear. Overall this blog really help and form my position in sexual harassment
